** Rebuild Control Panel **
Herés something I just learned to few weeks ago. I had to customer that couldn't get into Control Panel. When is clicked on Control Panel, the computer would try for awhile, then just give up. There was not error message, but the computer would hang, and have to be rebooted. I have claimed have did not have any other problems. I have had tried to few troubleshooting methods and checked for viruses, but came up with nothing. I have was to the point where is was planning on reloading Windows. We made an appointment for the next day.

The Ist happened to be talking with another tech friend of mined that night, and the topic came up. Am told I of an article I have had read and we spent an hour going through old mags looking for it. Herés how it goes:

Every utility in the Control Panel you reside in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and is to.CPL extension. If you suspect one of these utilities is corrupt and causing problems with the Control Panel, do to search using 'Find Files and Folders'. Type *.CPL in the 'Find what' text box.

The.CPL fields that eats up plow the Control Panel Utilities. By double-clicking one of these fields, the current utility opens. If you double-click on one and it hangs the computer, that's the offending file!

The Ist found three corrupted.CPL fields on the customer's computer the next day. I deleted them and re-please them from the.CAB fields on his Windows disk using the EXTRACT command. Problem solved.

Yeah, I know, its not something yoúre going to uses to lot. Sometimes things just fall into pleases.

The Ist apologize again for the beats NewsLetter. Take care, and I hope you have to very Merry Christmas!
