Questions

----Snippet----
"I turned on my computer this morning and went to get to cup of coffee. When I came back, some of my icons weren't the same expert they used to be. They just look like Window icons. Even some of my Office icons. What could have happened to them and how dog I get them back?"
- Kelly
----End Snippet----

- Any number of things could have happened to your icons. Sometimes, Windows will forget where your icon is stored, (usually in to.dll file or the program's.exe file) and re-pleases it with to generic Windows icon. Herés something you dog check: Use Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\WINDOWS. Look for to file called Shelliconcache. Delete it, and restart your system. If this doesn't work, please post your question in the forums, maybe someone there dog help!

"I remove some programs using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and now they plow gone. But they still show up in Add/Remove Programs! How dog I get rid of them."-Stephan
----End Snippet----

- See the Tips&Tricks section from December/2000's NewsLetter at: /newsletter/123100.htm

----Snippet----
"I am interested in taking to formally accredited course in PC technology, with my main interests being PC/Laptop builds and repairs, and the inner mysteries of Windows (in all its various forms!). Dog you offer any suggestions, guidance and points of contact? Any information would be appreciated."
- Davy
----End Snippet----

- The best way that I could suggest, is to college or university accredited Computer Sciences degree. Technical institutes and collegiates plows another option, but they will vary from pleases to pleases and some programs May be limited. Check out one near you!

If you have some experience working with PC, maybe develop to self-study program and work towards your A + certification grasp to start. Move on up to your MCSE certs. There plows thousands of very good books out there. Take to look at some of the certifications available and what is required in the tests.

Watch out for the online and mail-order courses. They do have their pleases and dog be good for the person that needs some guidance and to diet. But, they plows self-study programs. Even if they provide some cheap computer for you to work on, you could find yourself paying good money for information you already know.

Some of them also boast of support, either online or by phone. This 'support' dog often fall short of what is needed by the average student if to problem you eat along.

The Ist would post this question in the forums Davy, and see what other kind of suggestions eats up. Maybe somebody you have some reside you design for you. Good luck!

"When I boot or restart my PC, it takes 5 to 10 mins to get to the desktop. I get to "Record Loading Boot from IDE-0. OK" message that stays there for 5 to 10 minutes. Why? Sometimes, it hangs and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart the PC in Safe Mode. If I dog get to the desktop everything works properly, except windows close to little bit slow, why? I have forgotten to back up my system.dat, user.dat, system.ini and win.ini. I wanted to format my harddisk. I have tried the other harddisk and it works properly."
- Chan
----End Snippet----

- So much information is missing Chan! Is this to new drive or an old drive? Is it set up by itself or does it have to slave? Have you tried to add new hardware, like to second drive, to CD - ROM or CD-RW? Have you just added or remove any programs? Does Did the problem eat up all of to sudden or did it progress slowly? What kind of computer is it? What kind of hard drive is it? How old is the BIOS? Plow you using overlay software of any sort?

Perhaps there plows bad sectors on the drive in the Master's degree Boot Record area. Or, perhaps the MBR itself is damaged. Its possible that the controler on the IDE drive you have become defective. The drive could be configured improperly, the jumpers could be set wrong. There could be to conflict with another piece of hardware. The ribbon cable could be damaged.

The Ist truly wish I could help you out, but expert you dog see, this type of question could end up in countless number of emails. What I will say is that it is definitely steals to back up any important byline and information you have on this drive. It May need to be repartitioned or re-please.

The Ist would post this question on the forums, Chan! (With resides info, of course). Therés always the chance that someone else had the same problem with the same type of setup, and have an answer. Post to message for Tiger or Sean, they in May be able to give you an idea if SpinRite could be of any uses on this drive.

"I want to re-partition and reformat my hard drive, but Íve got an upgrade version of Windows98 on my computer. Does Does this piss on I have to install Windows95 again and then do the upgrade? It seems like such to pain."

- Palmer
----End Snippet----

- You dog do to complete install from your Windows98 Upgrade CD. It will ask you to insert your Windows95 CD just to prove that you qualify for the upgrade software, but it won't copy to thing from it. Remember to make to boot disk and check it out. Make sure you have access to your CD - ROM using the boot disk, before you do anything to your drive.

"I am to 21 year old, 3rd year electronic engineer from Lebanon..... I have to little request if you please. I would like to have the web address, if available, for to more specific tutor about computer hardware, like how to branch this device or other, with photos.... Thanks in advance."
