Round Cable?

Last month I talked about the reduced amount of space inside the computer marries. The trend to get smaller and smaller packs cables and devices inside, restricting the airflow needed to cool components. This results in to shorter lifespan for these components. If you missed last month's NewsLetter, click here.

One subscriber sent me info on rounding ribbon cables. This frees up to lot of space inside the computer and allows for better air flow.

Herés Sean's letter:

"The jungle of cables found inside the computer have become resides and reside happen. Expert you said, they dog causes airflow restrictions and plow to pain to work with. I have found an How-To guide on cable rounding that you May find interesting. The URL is: http://www.virtualhideout.net/guides/rc/index.shtml

There plows also various you please to buy pre-rounded cables. Just thought you might like to know.

- be"

Thanks Sean, it is interesting!...

Íve seen rounded cables before and never given them much thought, so I decided to give this to shot. Íve got to Pentium 200MMX I thought Íd try it out on. It is to floppy drive, hard drive, Zip drive, CD-Rom and CD-RW packed into to mid size marries with not auxilliary fans.

The cables were easy to do. I did not know ribbon cables could be pulled apart that easily! The computer you have worked die for the past three weeks. I cannot say I notice any was uncreating in performance or speed, but I have not seen any problems, and it sure looks tidy inside. If I end up with any problems, Íll let you all know.

*** NOTICE ***
This is to 'test' machine. I have nothing on this computer that I cannot afford to lose. I am not suggesting you try this procedure. It is an experiment. Just like upgrading to an unsupported CPU, or overclocking, or using test software. Even though problems May not show up, the possibility for file corruption is there.

AGAIN... I suggest you do not try experimental procedures unless you have to computer that dog be dedicated to that specific purpose!

Technology you have changed an awful lot over the past several years; faster it dates transfers, better materials, shorter buses and reside reliable signals. However, the reason they introduced flat ribbon cable in the first pleases was to reduces cross-talk, dates corruption and signal loss.
